The Dangers of Losing Road Trip Candy

The Dangers of Losing Road Trip Candy

Losing candy is not a huge deal. Normally it wouldn't be the end of the world (unless you are pregnant, that was always a huge deal). However after a little fiasco on our latest road trip I will be keeping a closer eye on my treats.

In October Jason got a new travel contract in Idaho. We were really excited because Idaho has been on our list of places to visit/work. We were also pretty nervous because this was Andrews first road trip and it was going to take about 3 days of driving.  Thankfully he handled the first 2 days like a champ. He loved getting out at gas stations and seeing all of the trucks go by. On the 3rd day however he was over it, and he made his displeasure known. It was a LOONNGG day.

Over all the trip went really well, we got a tow dolly and pulled our car behind the van. We have a bed set up in the back with all of our stuff underneath it. While it was pretty cold outside we stayed nice and toasty in the van. Staying in the van use to stress me out until Jason got carbon monoxide detectors and now I sleep great.  Andrew also enjoyed getting to snuggle with Mom and Dad instead of being in his own bed. The little wiggle worm had us both hanging off the edges of the bed through out the night.

Back to the lost candy. Near the end of day 2 I was driving and was snacking on some Rolos and chips. I put 3 Rolos on my leg so I could get them easier. A few minutes later I couldn't find my last one. I checked my seat and still couldn't find it. I figured I must have eaten it with out knowing.

However at our next stop I realized I had not eaten it. We stopped at a gas station because I REALLY had to use the bathroom. When I stood up I felt something sticky. I did have 3 Rolos and one I had been sitting on for over and hour, meting the chocolate, caramel and foil to my seat and my pants.

Again, I really had to use the bathroom and I asked Jason how bad it looked. He was trying not to laugh and said no one would probably notice but maybe I should wear a coat around my waist. I didn't have an extra coat out so I got in the back and pulled out a cold pair of pants and changed. When I saw the chocolate covered jeans I was horrified and told Jason. "No one would notice this?!” Now to be fair it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. However It looked like I didn’t make it to the bathroom. I can't blame him for laughing, I'm sure my whining and bouncing up and down was pretty funny to see. I then proceeded to run in the freezing cold rain to the gas station and deal with my candy mess later.

Thankfully other than the chocolate it was a pretty uneventful trip. We had to go at a slower pace, Taking lots of longer breaks for Andrew to get out and play. To keep Andrew from being bored out of his mind we would read books to him and when that stoped working we played go pro footage of Jason scuba diving in Hawaii. That helped a lot.

I will say that Andrew thew a fit for the following week anytime he got put in his car seat. I cant really blame him. I wish he could have sit up front to watch. He LOVED “driving” when we were parked at gas stations.

So far we love the new location and cant wait to get out and explore this part of the country!
